About the EU Delegation to Cambodia

Diplomatic Affairs
The EU Delegation has a similar role to any other accredited foreign diplomatic mission. The Delegation represents the European Union in its relations with the Cambodian government for all matters within EU jurisdiction. The EU Delegation does not duplicate the activities of the EU Member States' Embassies; instead it aims to coordinate the actions of the EU and EU countries.

Political Affairs

The Delegation monitors political developments in Cambodia and reports them to EU headquarters. The EU Ambassador, in coordination with the EU Member States' Ambassadors, maintains a permanent political dialogue with the Royal Government of Cambodia, in particular on issues related to democracy, the rule of law and human rights. The Delegation keeps close contacts with a range of other political stakeholders, including civil society.

Economic Affairs
The EU is Cambodia's biggest trading partner. The Delegation coordinates on a regular basis with the Ministry of Commerce and other stakeholders on issues related to market access, regulation, investment and international trade.

Cooperation
The Delegation leads the preparation of the EU-Cambodia development cooperation programmes and manages the implementation of development actions supported by the EU in the country. The Delegation assures extensive coordination with EU countries to provide better EU aid effectiveness in Cambodia.

Over the years, EU-Cambodia cooperation activities have assisted millions of Cambodians. EU programmes involve Cambodians from every walk of life and take place in a wide range of areas, including: education, agriculture and natural resource management, governance, human rights, public finance management, private sector development and climate change.

The EU is Cambodia's largest partner in terms of grant development assistance. Every year the EU, through the EU Delegation, contributes between €40 and €50 million (over US$52 – US$65 million) to support Cambodia's development.

Information and Cultural Affairs
The Delegation carries out a programme of activities in order to give all Cambodians the opportunity to discover European democratic values as well as Europe's rich cultural heritage. The Delegation works to create awareness and understanding of the EU in Cambodia, promotes the Erasmus Plus programme and provides information on request to the media and the general public.
